IBM PC Line Redrawn
IBM has decided to combine its entire desktop PC line under one name. The NetVista brand, until last week the name for IBM’s thin clients and appliance desktops, will now cover the whole range, including newly-released models for home and business.

IN LINE CSS RENDERING: dislike the resultant increase in confusion (see above), we are hopeful that unifying the product line will allow IBM to regain its focus, and reverse its slide. [One side comment: the Aptiva and PC 300 product lines are still available, but will eventually be discontinued.] User Recommendations IBM is still a leading PC manufacturer, and should be included in any selection research. Although its fortunes have waned in the past year, this announcement shows it is still trying to stay in the game.

Compaq Streamlines Product Line
Compaq is simplifying its sometimes dizzying range of product offerings in its business desktop lines. This bodes well for their customers.

IN LINE CSS RENDERING: (NASDAQ:AAPL) returned to profitability in part by slashing its product line from dozens of models and configurations to just a few. Expect Boom in Electronic Signatures
E-Pad deployment will skyrocket and make your fax machine obsolete. But don't expect all security experts to embrace electronic signatures as PKI solutions continue to be deployed. Nonetheless, even if electronic signatures are arguably less secure than PKI, less than optimal embedded security on E-pads will not likely affect the demand.
